Last Friday, Bigfoot made an appearance in Stilwell, driving around waving at the folks of the city and it was great to see the youngsters smile and giggle at the sight of Bigfoot. This same Bigfoot will be in attendance at the Oklahoma Bigfoot Symposium this Saturday March 12th at CC Camp, and even giving a presentation that hopefully everyone will find is worth the price of admission into the Symposium.
We also, health permitting, are going to have the man himself, who was in the Boggy Creek monster costume in the film, The Legend of Boggy Creek, Johnny Keith Crabtree, who will be signing autographs and taking pictures with everyone.
Perhaps the citizens of Stilwell, will see Bigfoot around town a few more times before Saturday’s event, and we encourage those who do to take a picture and post it online, we would like to see where everyone may spot him at.
As for our article about bigfoot costumes, it’s easy for the more experienced researchers to tell when a costume is being used in a photo or video, there are certain features that stand out. Now I won’t go into detail because then some people will adjust their costumes to make them more realistic, but when a researcher says that it’s a costume, there is usually good signs that show them that. The Mid-America Bigfoot Research Center also maintains a huge database of all Bigfoot and gorilla costumes that can be found, past and present, so that researchers can compare figures in photos and videos to those costumes that are out there.
There are also numerous instances of ghillie suits, (camo suits worn to make the wearer blend into the environment) where people have tried to imitate a Bigfoot and fool researchers and the public both.
How dangerous is it to try to wear a Bigfoot costume or ghillie suit in the woods and hoax people? In the northern part of the country, a man who was wearing a bigfoot costume and was running across the road in front of cars and trucks was struck by a vehicle and killed. During the filming of both Star Wars and Harry and the Hendersons, both the actors playing as Chewbacca and as Harry, were escorted in the woods by a team of people whose sole job was to keep them from being shot by someone while filming in the forests of the Pacific Northwest.
I personally witnessed two boys who were wearing a ghillie suit, laying in a ditch alongside the road and would jump up and run when a car got close to them. They thought it was funny until someone pulled up and was about to take a ball bat to them for risking people’s lives by creating a traffic hazard.
