In the Shadows – The Bottle of Fear - Article 25

In all the years I have been doing research, by myself and with others, I have used an analogy of the bottle of fear.  Everyone has a different level of fear, from being spooked easy, to being a stonewall in the face of things.  The MABRC tells all of its members, that when you are out in the field, we all have bottles, this bottle holds the amount of fear you can handle.  Everyone’s bottles fill at different speeds, and it depends upon the situation being encountered, but we tell our members that when your bottle starts to fill up, you should let someone know, there is no shame in it, and we will get you out of the area and to a place you can calm down at.

You should always take into account the bottle of fear for yourself and anyone that goes researching with you.  By following this train of thought, you can avoid potential safety issues should someone become too fearful to continue and panics, causing an accident or even something to cause injury to yourself or them.  Always be aware of your own bottle of fear too, if you panic, you could easily fall, run into a dangerous animal or other serious injury to yourself.  And not only yourself, but what of others that are with you, you suddenly run away and leave them behind, now youve risked someone elses life to a dangerous situation on their own.

Now you may ask, DW why are you talking about this?  Because folks, my own bottle fills up on occasion, it happens to us all, no matter how long we stay in the game, you will always have your own bottle to be worried about.
