In the shadows – Bigfoot Hunting Season?? - Article 11

Last week, an Oklahoma Legislator, Justin Humphrey introduced a bill to establish a Bigfoot hunting season in Oklahoma.  The emotions ran high in the Bigfoot community as people saw this as a direct threat to the creature referred to as Bigfoot.

I personally was interviewed by several news stations about this, you can watch the videos by going to www.bigfootfieldguide.com.

In my opinion, before Humphrey was forced to come out and make a public comment, was that this was an ignorant idea.  It would only lead to someone getting seriously hurt or even killed.  He was talking about giving a hunting license to anyone that wanted to go into the woods and shoot a bigfoot, not taking into account that people are walking around in the woods wearing coats and hoods, and other cold weather gear, in which a seasoned hunter would not just raise their gun and fire at it, thinking it was a Bigfoot.  People would be going out into the woods to shoot anything walking around on two legs.

After my interviews aired on the news, Humphrey was forced to come out and change his whole idea about the bill to only be about capturing a Bigfoot, and admitted that it was only to bring in tourists to his part of the state.  Bad decisions all the way around, I for one, would not want to be out there researching with people taking pot shots at anything on two legs.  Myself and other researchers carry a lot of equipment that distort our natural shape of being a human.  Someone who is already nervous about being in the woods searching for a creature that has had a lot of stories about how aggressive they can be, will be ready to fire at any shadow or sound.

Most folks in Eastern Oklahoma have grown up hunting and being around rifles, it wouldn’t be that worrisome to have those folks in the woods with weapons, it’s the city slickers that would be pouring in from the big cities who have no experience actually hunting or firing a weapon.

Capturing a Bigfoot is also an ignorant idea and concept as researchers aren’t even able to find Bigfoot on a regular basis, its few and far in between when Bigfoot is spotted.  Traps in the woods to capture Bigfoot would cause a dangerous situation for people who are in the woods.  In Adair County, a lot of kids venture into the woods and play there, what if one of them got caught in a snare or fell into a pit dug for a Bigfoot, searchers would have to go into the woods to search for a child and possibly fall upon more traps left out there.

All in all, Humphrey did not think any of this through, he just seen a way to attract tourists and separate them from their money, one of the more common phrases uttered around Honobia and Hochatown these days.

Enough ranting and raving about this, I would also like to inform everyone that the Oklahoma Bigfoot Symposium 2021 has been canceled due to the Covid pandemic, we couldn't protect everyone from getting infected.  We are exploring the possibility of hosting an online version of the Symposium later this year, and in 2022, the Symposium will return the second weekend of March at CC Camp.
